Slipknot & Stone Sour Front-Man Corey Taylor Writes a Horror Movie

Rock front-man Corey Taylor is no stranger to the weird and horrifying having donned many insidious masks throughout his career with Slipknot. Taylor has been in horror films before; he appeared alongside the legendary Robert Englund in 2014’s Fear Clinic and had a cameo in Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens. This time, he has taken the reins and wrote his own feature length film.

Taylor is also responsible for an 80’s horror retrospective documentary called In Search of Darkness which he spent the entirety of October releasing.

Taylor has enlisted the help of another horror icon to bring his creation to life, Tom Savini and his right-hand man Jason Baker will be providing their expertise in the special effects department. Savini’s name may be familiar to Slipknot fans for more than one reason, he is the creator of the mask that Taylor wore for the We Are Not Your Kind album cycle and tour.

Taylor told Kerrang!:

I wrote a script for a horror movie that I’m really stoked about. And I just broke the skin on book five, so I’m working on that as well. I’ve got a lot of things going on, but I’m also making sure there’s plenty of time for my family, my marriage and home… You never know how much time you’re gonna get there.

He also spoke with Rolling Stone having said:

I’m actually working on a movie right now. I finished a script and I’m aggressively looking for investors and producers. I’ve got all this stuff that I still want to get out of my system.

The film is currently in pre-production and will serve as Taylor’s directorial debut. The name and release date are yet to be announced.

Fan-Made ‘Voorhees’ Coming Soon (Chance to Win Screen Used Hockey Mask)

Fans of the Friday the 13th franchise is fully aware that Jason Voorhees doesn’t stay dead for long, but sadly he has been dead and buried since 2009 (unless you count the video game) due to lawsuits and other conflicts. Cody Faulk (Three Bodies One Grave), Chris Plaushin (Three Bodies One Grave) and Wet Paint Pictures have decided to resurrect one of the most notorious cinematic serial killers with their fan film Voorhees.

Voorhees stars Danielle Sandler (Zeke), Jeremy “Ogre” Amos (Bigfoot!), Eileen Sugameli (A Witch in Salem) and more. Unlike every other film to include Mr. Voorhees, the identity of the actor portraying him is being kept a secret this time.

Synopsis:

A crime has been committed…

Criminals have stolen a small fortune from a bank.  Instead of trying to outrun the police they plan to lay low in a remote location with a notorious past until the heat is off.   Their efforts to find sanctuary become complicated when they cross paths with a sinister force that has long been forgotten.

“Voorhees” is an independent horror fan film that brings a dark and sadistic vision to the iconic Friday the 13th franchise.  This film stays true to the horror that has thrilled fans for many decades while bringing our own unique story line.

Our talented cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this story to life.  “Voorhees” promises old school horror, bloody practical effects, and a Grindhouse cinematic look and feel.

From the ‘Voorhees’ Indiegogo

Trailer:

Anybody catch the nod to Freddy vs Jason?

The folks behind Voorhees have launched an Indiegogo campaign to help finish funding the film (like other fan films, all money raised will be going to covering the costs of the film). This is where you will get a chance to win a screen used hockey mask signed by Voorhees and Cody Faulk. All you have to do is pledge $10 to be entered into the raffle.

No official release date has been set, but the Indiegogo Blu-ray perk says they are expected to ship in March of this year, but only time will tell.

The Horror Community Takes on Bullying with ‘Don’t Be A Monster’ Bullying Prevention Program

Cinematic monsters may terrify us for an hour or two on screen, but some children and adults have to deal with real monsters on a daily basis in the form of bullies, and that terror can last a lifetime. In the world of social media and other digital platforms, bullying has become an even bigger problem than ever before; it is easy to be a monster and pick on someone when you’re guarded by a screen and an anonymous profile. The horror community is taking a proactive approach to teaching kids to be kind through the bullying prevention program, Don’t Be A Monster.

Don’t Be A Monster is a national 501 (c)(3) nonprofit founded in Denver, Colorado in 2013 by haunt industry leaders looking to make a difference in their community.

The program may have started as a way to make a difference in one community, but it has spread across the nation. Through the fall season, they offer Halloween-themed bullying prevention presentations to schools all over the country with their mascot, Frank. Frank represents the quirks that make us all different and he has brought the message of kindness and understanding to more than 1,000 schools.

Their program is highly-effective with 98.14% of schools surveyed pot-presentation having found the material to be beneficial and memorable for their students.

To learn more about the program and its mission, check out the Don’t Be A Monster Facebook Page. If you would like to donate, get involved or book Frank and the Don’t Be A Monster team for your school, visit dontbeamonster.org. #BeKind

‘Charles’: A Fan Made Chucky Film Promises to be Scarier Than the Original

New year, new horror, but this time (thankfully) it’s not coming from a big Hollywood studio who is just in it for the money, it is coming from true genre fans that know and care about what other fans want. Tony Bizz Productionz has teamed with CINEMAGIC PICTURES to bring the genre a new, fan made Chucky film it deserves with Charles.

What is Charles about?

“Charles” is a whole new re-imagining of Chucky. The feature length movie follows Michael and Samantha who just moved into a new house. Little do they know, the Lakeshore Strangler Charles Lee Ray lived in the house before his death six months earlier.

The couple finds a nostalgic Good Guy doll in their basement that wants something from them and will stop at nothing to get it.

“Charles” looks to put Chucky on the map as one of the scariest horror icons again. The movie will be a horrific rollercoaster, with similar styles to “The Conjuring”, “Annabelle”, and “The Haunting of Hill House”.

With an intense, suspenseful story, cinematic visuals,  authentic hand-made dolls, and a beautifully frightening music score, “Charles” will make Chucky scary again.

Synopsis quoted from film Indiegogo Campaign page

Funding for the film was more than met, and it appears as though horror fans may finally have a genuine reason to be excited for a new movie. If the production quality of the two available teaser trailers is any indication of how the entire film was shot, fans are in for a treat. The angles, lighting and general tone of the film exhibited in the trailers is fantastic, scary and horrifyingly artistic without being over-the-top. See for yourself.

You can find teaser trailer number two as well as other great videos on the Tony BizZ YouTube Channel.

As of right now, the estimated release date for Charles in February 2020.

“How is this legal and the studios aren’t beating down their doors with lawsuits”, you might be wondering. Charles is a non-profit film meaning that all of the money raised for the film goes directly back into it, nobody pockets money for it.

To stay up-to-date on Charles, be sure to like the CHARLES-Fan Film Facebook page and follow the film on Instagram via @charlesmovie.

Product Review: Wicked Sisters Cosmetics’ Shining Inspired ‘237 Palette’

Two of my biggest passions are makeup and horror, and when they combine the world is so much better. An independent company called Wicked Sisters Cosmetics is combining wonderful quality makeup with some of horror’s biggest classics; one of their newest additions is the Shining inspired 237 Palette.

The 237 Palette includes 9 gorgeous shadows:

  • Twins- a beautiful frosty blue shimmer
  • 1921- a rich, deep brown shade
  • Wendy- an orange/brown shimmer
  • Shining- a stunning, rich gold shimmer
  • Care Taker- a plum/black matte
  • Hotel- vibrant orange mate (like the shade that can be found in the iconic Overlook carpet)
  • Doc- light brown/taupe matte
  • Dull Boy- off-white/cream matte
  • REDRUM- a stunning red glitter

To accurately review the palette, I had to try it out of course. For the look below, I used the following:

  • Hotel: crease/transition/inner corner of lid
  • Care Taker: socket/blended through crease/outer lid
  • Dull Boy: brow bone/diffuse crease color/under bottom lash line
  • Wendy: center lid
  • Shining: lower lash line
  • 1921: outer lash line

This is hands down my new favorite palette, and I own quite a few, including big brands. The colors are highly pigmented, so you don’t have to keep adding more product to achieve the desired look. The formula is INCREDIBLE, it is silky and blends effortlessly on the eyes. The colors all compliment each other so well, so if you wanted to really go in and add all 9 for a super bold look, it could be done flawlessly.

Shimmer shadows are really difficult to work with sometimes; they are usually far less pigmented, hard to blend and tend to create a lot of fallout, but the ones in the 237 palette are perfect. None of the shades produce much fallout at all which is really impressive for a palette that only costs $24, I have paid a lot more for other brands and have had to do a lot of cleanup.

As previously mentioned, the 237 palette is $24, and if you are a makeup junkie, you know how pricey palettes can be. For 9 shades, including the combination of matte, shimmer and glitter with a formula as good as this one, $24 is a steal.

Bonus mini review: to finish the look, I also used their 3D Fiber Waterproof Mascara-Lasher. I have very stubborn eyelashes, so I struggle to find mascaras that actually do what the packaging promises, but this one is AMAZING. One coat and my lashes were fuller and longer, it looked like I had just applied falsies.

I am going to have to highly recommend both of these products. Wicked Sisters Cosmetics is a win for the makeup obsessed for sure. Daeg Faerch: All Grown Up & Making Some Noise

Child actors, they’re cute, sometimes funny and in the horror industry, the creepiest presence on the screen, but sadly, many of these actors burn out before making a name as an adult in the entertainment industry. In 2007, Rob Zombie made the bold decision to create his own adaption of John Carpenter’s 1978 classic Halloween, and in his vision we got a glimpse into the tortured adolescent life of Michael Myers. Portraying the disturbed child version of Myers was a 12-year-old actor named Daeg Faerch. Faerch is known for his blonde hair, beautiful blue eyes and all around cherub appearance (which helped give his portrayal of young Myers more mystic); now 24-years-old, he is making waves of a new kind, sound waves.

The now all-grown-up Faerch is taking Instagram by storm with clips of his original, unique hip-hop sound. Now known as Great Daeg, his music can be found on popular streaming apps like Spotify and Apple music as well as his YouTube channel (here) . Faerch released his lastest video VLAD featuring Vokillz a week ago (watch below).

Show Daeg some love and show an artist that hard work and creativity are still very much appreciated. Check out his YouTube channel (linked above) and give him a follow on his social accounts:

Product Review: Horney Devil’s Devilicious Body Butter “Sugar Rush”

Horney Devil Beard Co. is a company out of Wilmington, NC that is veteran run and is best known for their quality, handcrafted beard care products, but they now offer a little something for the ladies; Devilicious Body Butters.

I have recently tried their Devilicious Body Butter in Sugar Rush, and have fallen in love. Body butters are a hard product to master, many leave a greasy feel to the skin or smell nothing like it did in the container once it is applied to the skin, but this one is perfect; it left my skin feeling soft and looking moisturized without making me feel like I took a bath in Crisco, and the smell stayed incredible.

The site describes the scent as being “warm vanilla sugar”, it does have a very sweet vanilla smell, and the smell only gets better the longer it is on. When it is first applied, it smells like a better version of Bath & Body Works vanilla brown sugar (with a better price tag too), but the longer it is on, especially if your body is warm, it starts to smell like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.

The price to product size and quality is fantastic. The body butters are $12.50 for a 4 oz jar; which for anyone that regularly buys or looks into quality body products is a great deal for an all natural body butter that actually does what it is supposed to do. The jar is pretty “user friendly” too; I have encountered many products that are put in containers that do not mesh with the consistency and use of its contents. The opening of the jar for the Devilicious Body Butter is wide making it easier to access the product inside, and the consistency is perfect (like a slightly thicker lip balm).

Sugar Rush is not the only scent that they offer; you can also pick up Eternal Bliss (“A pretty and glamorous scent with top notes of passion fruit, juicy citrus and middle notes of fresh orange flower and sugary vanilla”).

If you would like to try Sugar Rush or any of their other incredible products, visit horneydevilapothecary.com.

On a side note about the company itself and the incredible people that run it, their customer service is fantastic, if there is a hangup in your order or you simply just have a question, they will go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied.

All-Star Horror/Sci-Fi Cast Team Up for ‘Terror Tales’

It’s been a while since the release of the Creepshow films, but there is a new horrifying collection of stories headed our way that feature an all-star cast made up of names from Friday the 13th, Maniac Cop 1&2, George Romero’s The Crazies, Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs, Sleepaway Camp, Critters 2 and more. This cast comes together to give us ‘Terror Tales‘ from writer-director Jimmy Lee Combs.

When Michael wakes up he is horrified to find that he is riding shotgun with a psychopath (Christopher Showerman, Supergirl) who reveals to him that his wife and daughter are held captive in the attached cargo trailer. The trailer is rigged to release a deadly toxin when triggered by a switch in the car. Thinking of his family’s safety, he cooperates with everything the psychotic driver asks him to do even if it means breaking the law.

During this bizarre ride, the driver subjects Michael to three horrific tales of the macabre including a demon that takes a mother (Lynn Lowry, Shivers) on a journey of self-discovery and reveals to her the horrifying truth behind her son’s suicide. The next tale transpires in the ’80s where a Detective is hot on the trail of a serial killer known as The Sledgehammer (Jonathan Tiersten, Sleepaway Camp) who is terrorizing a video store owner and his wife. In the final tale, an evil deity (Yan Birch, Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs) is using the human body as a host to possess its victims. When the deity destroys one victim it jumps to another causing an epidemic of possessions being reported.

With a burning desire for the truth behind his abduction and the safety of his family, will Michael have the will to survive the madness? Your sanity will be tried and tested in Terror Tales.

The film also stars Laurene Landon (Maniac Cop), Jennifer Runyon (Ghostbusters), Ari Lehman (Friday the 13th), Ashley Park (Rosewood), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Helen Udy (The Dead Zone).

Terror Tales comes to VOD on January 8th from High Octane Pictures.
