Adam Green surprised fans at the Hatchet 10th Anniversary celebration with the announcement and screening of his new gore baby, ‘Victor Crowley’. After the announcement, Green launched a theater tour of the film and it garnered a positive fan response. Victor is definitely back and better than ever.
Like the previous Hatchet films, Victor Crowley has its share of cameos, starting with one not even a half hour in. The core cast is the best one yet, Kane Hodder (Hatchet), Perry Shen (Hatchet), Laura Ortiz (Holliston), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Dave Sheridan (A Haunted House), Brian Quinn (Impractical Jokers) and Krystal Joy Brown (Castle).
Most of those names are tied to campy roles, and are best known for their humor, and because of this, not only is this the goriest Hatchet film to date, it is also the funniest. There are times that you will feel like a complete asshole for laughing because Victor is ripping someone apart but someone (usually Dillon played by Dave Sheridan) says something completely unfitting (in a good way) to the situation. Rose, played by Laura Ortiz, may be the best new character. She’s sassy, funny and totally adorable (she’s kind of a badass too).
If you’re into campy gorefests that pay homage to the slasher films of the 80s, Victor Crowley is for you. Splatter and body parts aside (those are awesome too), the film is a lot of fun (in a “should I be laughing at this that guy just got ripped apart…yeah I should” kind of way). Just like a fine wine, Green and the Hatchet franchise are only getting better with time.
If you’re a quitter and turn the movie off when the credits begin to role, you’re going to miss a pretty awesome scene…just saying…hint hint…wink wink.
To quote the great Adam Green and Joe Lynch, this movie is tits.
